Abdul Wahab Wasiq is a dedicated advocate for community wellness, with a background in psychology and education. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Kabul University in 2006 and trained with Pat Omidian and Nina Joy Lawrence in psychosocial wellness, becoming a Focusing Professional. Later, he was recognized as a Coordinator after mentoring eight students from Kabul University and training over 700 teachers in Community Wellness Focusing across Kabul, Parwan, and Kapisa provinces. As a Psychosocial Focusing and Peace Education Trainer with the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC/Quakers), he worked extensively with community groups, helping them build resilience. He also collaborated with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) on reducing violence against women through psychosocial wellness and partnered with Afghan government ministries on education and social welfare projects.
Committed to empowering marginalized groups, Wahab developed university entrance exam prep for girls in remote villages, ensuring they had access to higher education. He fostered cultural exchange by coordinating thousands of letters between American and Afghan students and played a key role in linking U.S. and Afghan schools. Throughout his career, he has championed women’s rights, girls’ education, and community well-being, always ensuring that girls were not excluded from opportunities. His work continued until the Taliban takeover, forcing him to stop group activities, though he remained committed to wellness efforts. Now living outside of Afghanistan as a refugee, he continues to seek ways to support vulnerable communities, carrying forward his lifelong mission of education, psychosocial wellness, and social change.
